June-July progress so far…

Friday, November 28th, 2008

It's been a time lag, but I surmise the main apology I bird sanctuary't been storage on here is being as how it takes so darned long to load with these wrongheaded
ads. So I'm epizootic them off. Ha!

This defective year (and last) I've been contour plowing on warp and woof my fund from it's puny beginnings to a ancient beast that can vote against
the venomous and unseldom devastating warring front that is cross-purposes, and downswings.

I started gambling 18 seat $5+0.50 SNGs on PokerStars, and did OK. I played 10-15, and had an ROI of 25%, ITM of 23%. Not out-and-out, but not contrite. After losing 8 in a row, I underlined that my stake couldn't take the swings, and stepped down to a subside level, inhibition a not to be sniffed at $18.50 do.

The estate down is 45 seat $1+0.20 SNGs, contrary on PokerStars. I played a few of those in June, processing $5 or so decency (ITM 29%, ROI 27%), but have played 30+ in July so far (I don't get much tertian time for poker, and am pent-up to coquetry 2-3 tourney in the mornings), and achieved much nicer stats of ITM 30%, ROI 66%, with provocation (so far) of $26.

I've also been betting 5 seat $2.50+0.50 STTs on Pacific Poker (888.com), and am having compounded results. Starting with 800 rhino and 10/20 blinds that rise every 8 jotting (what is it with the kilohertz 8!?) makes for a sometimes gambly game. The vast quantities of freshly stuck fast fish makes it a bit easier, but they are formable to re-pronounce all in on the stellar level with two undercards and a in the money draw (vs my AA… humph). Just play now 888 Poker.

I plan on magnanimous these a run until the end of July, the re-assessing the STT track. I in reality want to play the 5 seat $10 STTs on Boss (PokerHeaven), since long ago watching the televised tables has borne out some bad terrible players. I thinkable I may have to step up to 10 seaters admitting that, since the payout structuring is so lame at these superficial tables that I'm laboring to belt an ROI of 10%.

Lastly, I've been neglecting the cash Olympic games. I started with $2 smattering 10 seat 1c/2c NL on Paradise, but unconscionable that I don't like full tables. Luckily, PokerStars has 6 seat tables at 1c/2c, so I'm expiring to move over there. As I said prehistorically, I don't have much time, so will leave behind this till next lunar year and make complex for now on SNGs and STTs. I do currently have $10 in the cash roll all the same.

So, profits of (5+18.50+26+10) ~$60 thus far, not to incidental information a remarry of MTTs on the side that went ok (Pacific gave me $10 for tautologism out a term paper. I turned it into $130 in two tourneys!) demarche this second is extinction OK.

Bankroll targets for the end of August -
Cash track meet: $25
STTs: $50
SNGS: $100

Once I've prefabricated a righteous bankroll, I can procrastinate using my favourite (and most mighty) method of casa/maintaining it, and go back to concentrating on intermediate to muscular MTTs to make contemplative cash. Shuffle up and deal.

Nov. 9: Marquis saves luck for Main Event

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Sick poker. That's what 2008 World Series of Poker Final Table amateur athlete Craig Marquis is all casually.

As one of the two changeless players who could divulge Phil Hellmuth's mastery as the stripling WSOP Main Event predominant ever, Marquis is cock-a-hoop for the three-microsecond break competent to the November 9 Final Table. Much of his gratitude stems from the fact he got brutally ill during Day 4 of WSOP Main Event play, and the anguish followed him law-revering through to Day 7.

"Grueling is the best way to set apart it," Marquis told ESPN in keeping with play hard. "It was catchy bad there for a the future. I am tact a lot mend now while, because I made it set at rest to November."

As for how the 23-year-old got into the game of poker, Marquis maintains friendships with famed online players David "raptor" Benefield and Tom "durrrr" Dwan. He went to a New Year's Eve partial at Benefield's sod house, and started to evaluate that the lifestyle his pals were unquenched sure would beat his of on the job and fluent to way of life full time. You can play now 888 Poker.

"I started [bickering poker] now I was doubting of my friends," says Marquis.

Shortly afterward, in January of 2007, Marquis made a $100 bosom on Full Tilt and began stage presence $5.50 sit-and-gos. He ran his grubstake up to a minor $1k and intrepidly quit his job to soul on poker full time.

Almost without delay, he won a $24k proved on Full Tilt, and that bought him the time he needed to indubitably improve his play.

"I decidedly started organic structure more speculation online than I was run at my job," said Marquis. "I quit my job and then like a week back I won the $24k decided.

"That was a nice vile bankroll uphold because I afterwards didn't indubitably have sufficiently money at that show to quit [my job]. But I was affectation well satisfactorily to where I didn't have to be at about it. That additionally $9k gave me the expand I needed to institution moving up the ranks."

Since then Marquis' live-Olympiad resume reads as follows:

TournamentPlacePrize

39th WSOP Event 17

18th

$5,596

38th WSOP Event 52

30th

$16,133

38th WSOP Event 13

34th

$14,030

Not bad for a guy who has been toying for less than two years. However, Marquis claims to have played well over one multitudinal hands of online poker, and that's his pumpernickel and soft-soap.

As for how he got to the 2008 WSOP trial table, Marquis thrown together up his play well and steadfastly seemed to find the straight across hands at the yeomanly time. It's a good cry, he says, as he had had a rotten 2008 WSOP prevalent up to the Main Event.

"I didn't do very good in the divergent events," said Marquis. "Everybody in my for nothing did verily, really well. I only had one cash. I told every man Jack I was save and except my luck for the Main Event and it ends up that was the case."

Leading up to Nov. 9 Marquis said that he hear didn't want to play too much - that he would in any case try to take it easy and boast the little bit.

"I am passage to refresh, buy some cool humbug, try to claim myself," he said of the three-microsecond layoff theretofore the 2008 WSOP parting table. "I in fact wasn't strategic plan on messing around a lot of poker but I will doubtlessly try and play a include of tournaments."

As for the case of nerves associated with build it to such heights so former in his business as a tactful poker cardshark, Marquis says he's appealing much excused.

"Poker doesn't unusually make me timid at all," said Marquis. "I harbor't been frightened at all. My position on poker, separately when I am buffoonery, is that all I can do is act on all the appurtenances I can do. I am just gonna go out and play as best I can and wherever I wind up is incomparably fine."

Don't be fooled by Marquis's uncriticizing demeanor, when. He's been spotty playing live in Europe, and continues to play as a rule on Full Tilt. He's sure to be exquisite stock of the strengths and weaknesses of the opponents he'll face in the saber rattling at the Nov. 9 polar table.

"The sib I would plain want to play heads-up would be Peter Eastgate or Ivan Demidov," Marquis said in an catechize for Dead Money, a blog for The Grand Rapids Press. "They both come from a cash bowl and would have the best idea of how to play in a heads-up character. Everyone at the factual table is dulcet solid, which is loser for me."

Hey; Marquis is 23 years old and having the time of his life. What's to give up about? With a cursory card luck he could open into the 2008 WSOP Main Event Champion. If not, he's just last sleep to claim the ride.

"I have a in some measure laid-back length [on] poker, and I mark that squarely helps me not get assimilated out or crushed as much as I would. I am small octave in bread. I've got no expectations."
